Learn more about EDF Energy and see if they could save your business money on your gas and electricity bills
EDF Energy is an arm of French energy giant, EDF Group, and is a global leader in low-carbon energy supplying more than 5.5 million customers in the UK.
EDF Energy are included within the ‘Big Six’ energy companies and provides gas and electricity contracts for businesses, large businesses and also domestic properties with a focus on energy efficiency.
As Britain’s biggest generator of zero-carbon electricity, EDF is a main player in helping the UK reach its 2050 net-zero carbon emissions target and offers a variety of business services to improve its green credentials, such as smart metering, electric vehicle contracts and energy efficiency initiatives.
With internal policies and projects, EDF Energy plans to enable investment in low-carbon technologies in the UK worth over £50bn by 2035. This amounts to 12GW of wind, solar and nuclear power – meeting one-fifth of UK demand.
EDF Energy was formed in January 2002, following the acquisition and mergers of SEEBOARD Plc (formerly the South Eastern Electricity Board), London Electricity plc (formerly the London Electricity Board or LEB), SWEB Energy Plc (formerly the South Western Electricity Board) and two coal-fired power stations and a combined cycle gas turbine power station.
In 2009, EDF Energy took control of British Energy, the nuclear generator in the UK, buying share capital from the government. This made EDF Energy one of the largest generators in the country, as well as the biggest distribution network operator.
